Samsung makes its Android flip phone official, at least in China

After churning around the rumor mill, Samsung has finally made this little thing official. Samsung's newest Android smartphone dubbed as the Samsung W789 (Hennessy) is real and seems like to be sold only in China (as of now). The Chinese Samsung website showcases the device and is probably (I'm pretty sure) Samsung's first ever Flip phone that runs on Android. News about the device being sold in other countries is yet to be known and if this device will be displayed during IFA 2013 in Berlin. Anyway, what is important is that the rumors have been true. With regards to specs, I do not have the full list of it but I will just enumerate them as per the Samsung China website.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 3G version reportedly starts getting the Android 4.2.2 JB update

After the 4G LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 has received its share of the Android 4.2.2 love from Samsung, the 3G version of the tablet has also started getting the said update. The report came from a Note 8.0 user who is in Germany so the update probably started there and eventually will end up to all the Note 8s around the world. For those who own a Note 8.0, you might want to manually check for an update it might be available for you already.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy Note 8.0 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 starts rolling out

Every Samsung device that did not run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean from the box was suppose to get the update around July or August but you probably read rumors about Samsung skipping the said version of Android to the Galaxy Note II and the Galaxy S III. Those two devices are expected to skip 4.2 and directly get Android 4.3 and that probably would happen a month or so after the Note III has been announced (or maybe within September). Anyway, all the other Samsung devices, including those in the photo, the Galaxy Note 8.0 and the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 are reported to have started receiving the said update.

Google Play Edition Samsung Galaxy S IV's Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update rolls out

Together with the HTC One (Google Play Edition), the Samsung Galaxy S IV Google Play Edition is also getting it's fair share of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. The software is being pushed to these devices via OTA, which mean your device should notify you if an available update is ready to be downloaded and installed. For those who still did not get the notification may want to manually check it via Settings > About Phone. The update for the SGS IV Google Play is 180MB so this update is best downloaded while connected to a WiFi network.
