Samsung has just announced their 2014 flagship Android smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S V during their Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 1 event. The new phone is, personally, lovable. The way the back panel is perforated gives the Galaxy S line of devices a new feel to it. Anyway, design is subjective so let's just leave it at that. The features are more interesting that the design, as it should be with a Samsung device. The S5 is the world's first smartphone with a heart rate sensor on it. Yes, the one you see just below the camera lens (photo above) just beside the flash. Also the S5 runs on the latest version of Android, 4.4 KitKat and has a larger display measuring 5.1". A larger battery comes into the bandwagon too and I should not forget, it is the first Galaxy S device to be IP67 certified uhuh, it now competes with Sony's Xperia line of devices. The S5 has a IP67 certification which is higher than that of the Z2 (IP58).
During the event, Samsung did not focus on the device's specs, actually they did not even mention the device's processor. They only dwell on the camera which is a 16MP shooter with the world's fastest auto focus on any mobile device at 0.3 of a second. It can record UHD videos and also has rich tone HDR feature I was not able fully to get. Selective focus is also a plus.
Finger Scanner, Download booster (combines LTE network and WiFi for faster downloads), PDAF (not the scam) for the camera (read specs), microUSB 3.0, Ultra power saving mode (turns display into B&W and shuts down all other things except the essentials) are just some of the tons of features this smartphone offers.
Anyway, Samsung is prepped to launch the Galaxy S 5 in nearly 150 countries by April 11, 2014. So for those who wants to be one of the first, mark your calendars. Let's hope it gets into your country by that day.
