Samsung Galaxy Note Edge - Specifications & Features

This, I am pretty sure, was unheard of. Never got into the rumor mill! Nobody saw this device to be unveiled by dear old Sammy. I like surprises, but this is way more than a surprise. The world's first mobile device with a curved display? If not, then Samsung's first mobile device (that is not a smartwatch) with a curved Super AMOLED display. [Edit] The Galaxy Round, I believe, took the honor.

I don't really think I need to talk or write. Just look at it and allow your saliva to drip. What I want to say though is that Samsung has no plans of launching the device globally. According to their press release, the Galaxy Note Edge will be available in "select markets' which makes it a bit sad since my country, the Philippines, might not be one of those markets. Crossing my fingers.

So, what is the essence of the screen on the edge of the device? For those who have watched the Samsung UNPACKED 2014 Episode 2 event, then you know how amazing Samsung made the screen and what uses it has for the device and the user, of course.

Take of example your taking a photo. The Note Edge's edge screen will automatically turn into a camera button and etc (you know the things you'd normally see at the top of the camera screen). If your listening to music the edge screen will then be the next, previous, pause, and play buttons. If you are watching a video, the edge screen will be your notification bar and that is awesome so that the full 1440p (5.6") display won't be disturbed with a notification bar dropping down from the top.

The edge screen also acts as an "active" (if you may) notification bar when you phone's main screen is turned off (I hope I got this right). View messages without having to turn on your device. Weather updates? Stocks? and other information you'd like to look at without the huge screen turning on? The edge screen can do that for you.

Everything from the Note 4 will be on the Note Edge, except that the screen is a bit smaller (0.1 of an inch) from that of the Note 4 and the battery for the Note Edge is rated at just 3000 mAh rather than the Note 4's 3220 mAh.

For the device's availability, the Note Edge will be available in select markets stating in October.
