comScore releases Q3 US mobile subscriber share report - Samsung leads the pack

This does not come as a surprise actually, because it has been years that Samsung has been leading the US market for mobile phones (which includes smartphones and non-smartphones). comScore released their quarterly Mobile Phone Report for the 3rd quarter of this year and, guess what? Samsung leads the pack with a 26% market share in the US for mobile phone including smartphones.

Samsung's archenemy, LG is in second but is 7% down from Samsung. Apple, the world's greatest company, is in 3rd closing in to LG with a market share of 17.5%. Other OEMs in the list include Motorola, and HTC in 4th and 5th respectively.

Wonder where RIM is? Well, they are already out of the picture while Nokia has never really been a major competitor in the US market. Probably they were, back when RIM was the only smartphone brand the world knows.

Samsung grew just 0.4% in Q3 from 25.6% while the biggest mover is Apple with an increase of 2.1% in September from 15.4% in June. The other OEMs have been loosing market shares. Which means, what they lost is Apple's and Samsung's gains.

Samsung also currently leads the global market share for mobile phones and for smartphones.

Let's go to mobile platforms and apparently, it's Android leading the way. It has been like this for a year, if my memory serves me right. Just like what is happening in the OEMs part of the story, the only OS-es that are gaining market share is Apple's iOS and Google's Android. Everybody else seems to be loosing market share. Apple has the biggest increase for this quarter with a 1.9% change from 32.4% in June. Google's Android is still growing but now at a slower pace with just an increase of 0.9% from 51.6% in June.

Even with it's slower growth, it is still note worthy that Google commands the OS war in the US.

Currently, Google's Android leads the pack in the global market share for mobile OS too.
