Samsung develops world's first 8GB LPDDR4 RAM for mobile devices

Samsung developed the world's first 8GB LPDDR4 RAM for mobile devices which is manufactured with their 20nm class process. I really do not know what that means but then again it sounds cool. There is no word when Samsung plans to start mass producing this jawdroppingly huge DRAMs but since they announced it this early expect that the South Korean giant to produce them around Q3 or Q4 of 2014.

According to their post about this announcement, Samsung, yet again, establishes that they are the leader when it comes to DRAMS. They have 4GB and 6GB LPDDR3 RAMs and of course, their 3GB in the Galaxy Note III. This new DRAM from Samsung "will focus on the premium mobile market including large screen UHD smartphones, tablets and ultra-slim notebooks that offer four times the resolution of full-HD imaging, and also on high-performance network systems."

It also promises lower battery consumption. This DRAM uses Low Voltage Swing Terminated Logic (LVSTL) I/O interface. In paper it allows faster data transfer at 3,200 megabits per second per pin and is said to be twice faster than 20-nm LPDDR3 DRAMs that are are currently being massed produced. All in all, Samsung's 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM will have a 50% increase in performance than LPDDR3 or DDR3 memory.
